Arizona's 2013 Polo Championships

The weather is finally a comfortable 79 degrees here in Phoenix, Arizona so that means time to strap on your Wellingtons and get ready for third annual Ferrari- Maserati Polo Championships!

The much-anticipated Scottsdale event started with a pre-party at Molina Fine Jewelers where “Crown Jewels” made up a lavish, yet elegant display. Between the hors d’ oeuvres and flowing Veuve Clicquot, much polo-talk was in the air that evening. “Did you see that amazingly precise cut-shot in the third chukker?”

The first night of the 2013 polo championships centered on the all-star match that was held at WestWorld on Friday afternoon. Hundreds of Polo aficionados showed up to sit in the tents to watch the match and mingle with fellow enthusiasts. You could expect to see everything from equestrian riding boots to large Kentucky Derby style hats. We loved to see the various takes on Polo inspired fashion especially here in Arizona. The beautiful Ferrari 458 and Old Alfa Convertible were not too bad on the eyes either.

After the All-Star match came the moment that we all were waiting for, the Sunset fashion show put on by none other than Phoenix Fashion Week. Droves of people filled the Volvo of Phoenix Lounge to see fashions by Dillard’s, My Sister’s Closet, and Phoenix Fashion Week Emerging Designer, Doux Belle. The runway attire sported by Jani Models was all polo inspired including everything from whips to riding helmets. Needless to say, the clothing was very “fitting” for the scene. This display on the runway gave us the urge to head to the nearest Ralph Lauren to start picking out items for our fall wardrobe. The production was flawless and concluded with the models parading down the runway one last time for the finale.

We had a fabulous time at this year’s annual polo championship event and we are eagerly looking forward to what Day #2 has to offer. We can expect to see a battle of the sexes polo match as well as The Clogau Wales Polo Team in a match against the United States Military Polo Team. See you in the tents!
