Hollywood Costume Exhibit is one of the coolest things to ever make its way through Arizona. Featuring costumes from iconic films both past and present, this exhibit is perfect entertainment for just about anyone.
We were so thrilled when Phoenix Art Museum invited us to come and share the exhibit with our readers. The opportunity got even better when we had the chance to interview the fashion curator of Phoenix Art Museum, Dennita Sewell, to find out exclusive information about the Hollywood Costume and Hollywood Red Carpet exhibits. Find out more information about the exhibit in our feature story Hollywood Comes to Arizona here.
The production value of the exhibit, as you will see in the photos that follow, is unmatched in its attention to detail, ability to spark interest, and really helping the audience make sense of the countless costumes in the exhibit. (Well, not truly countless, there is a list of all the costume featured in the exhibit on PhxArt.org/HollywoodCostume/ListofCostumes)
We hope you enjoy our photos as much as we enjoyed taking them.
Hollywood Costume Exhibit
Fun Fact: All the mannequins in the Hollywood Costume exhibit were built to the proportions of the actor or actress who wore the costume. That is why some are taller, others are shorter, some are thin, others are thicker.
Fun Fact: This costume from Sex is the oldest costume in the exhibit. It is from 1920.
Fun Fact: Marilyn Monroe had hearts sewn into all her costumes, but this was one of the very few that was on the outside.
Fun Fact: Phoenix Art Museum was the only location on the Hollywood Costume tour to have the American Hustle Costumes.
Fun Fact: This was not actually Daniel Radcliffe’s costume, but was rather the costume of a miscellaneous school boy.
Fun Fact: Dorothy’s shoes are the only original shoes in the exhibit. All the others are either replicas or meant to fit in enough to not be distracting.
If you’ve enjoyed this story, we know you will enjoy seeing the Hollywood Costume and Hollywood Red Carpet exhibits for yourself. For more information about museum hours and to purchase tickets, please visit Tickets.PhxArt.Org.
Phoenix Art Museum, with the help of Dennita Sewell, is one of the major forces putting Arizona on the map for fashion, and so of course supporting them means the world to us! Thanks in advance for doing your part to foster the fashion scene in Arizona.
