Having a startup is no easy job…. Let’s be honest, along with the glamour of being your own boss and making your dreams come true, comes the harsh realities of business. It’s easy to feel defeated and overwhelmed. But, at the end of the day, you still have to deliver because you ARE the boss.

StartUp Fashion began with a mission to help creatives who were launching their business. Not only does StartUp Fashion offer a plethora of resources ranging from line sheet templates to social media strategies and more, but it also delivers a community of people who are going through the same thing you are. It offers support, encouragement, and advice – which is usually exactly what you need when you’re feeling stuck.

I wanted to bring this support to Phoenix, and so I became a community connector for StartUp Fashion. (Read more about that here.) For July’s Designer Discussion series, we talked about branding, an insanely important component for any business, but particularly those in the fashion industry as your brand can make or break you.

Local experts Risa Kostis of Ristyle Consulting, Cynthia Sassi of Fabulous Arizona and Sassi Media LLC, and Melis Cohen of Melis Accessories came to Clothes Minded Boutique to share their journeys of how they built their brands, and what entrepreneurs should keep in mind as they build theirs.

Be Authentic.

Deliver a Message.

Be Consistent and Cohesive.

Choose Your Collaborations Wisely.

Your brand is a promise to your customers.
– Risa Kostis of Ristyle Consulting

Everyone in attendance left feeling not only inspired, but like they had some direction and insight on the best way to move forward building a brand. I know I definitely thought about how I can continue to grow the Couture in the Suburbs brand, and this is something I’ve been working on for 4 years!

The best part of the Designer Discussions events is that they are centered around growing your business. You can admit what you’re struggling with. You can ask for advice. You can find new people to help you on your journey. And that’s exactly how it should be. We are forming a community of resources that are willing to chat with you and tell you the honest truth.

This is how we move fashion forward, Arizona.
