Here On The Corner boutique in Tempe (steps away from ASU and Mill Avenue) hosts a Local Designer Night once a month. We stopped by to visit some old friends, and make some new ones!

Julie Kent, the owner of Here On The Corner, is incredibly passionate about using her store to make a difference. Her motto is “Local Fashion, Global Passion.” To implement this, Julie carries lines from local designers as well as brands that give back to charitable organizations. Local Designer Night is Kent’s genius idea to highlight her Arizona designers.

“It’s a special night for them and attracts attention to them and lets people know it’s important to support your local designers, your local businesses. It’s festive. It gives people a reason to come other than just let’s go shopping,” Julie told us.

Without a doubt, Phoenix designers love having Here On The Corner’s support. “This place has been awesome. It was a huge success that I wasn’t planning on. Julie is such a great person, all her employees are really good,” said Cyd, from Cydona Beadz.

The night also serves as a platform for designers to network with one another. Lisa Kelley, from Recycled Skateboards International certainly appreciates the event. “Local designer night is amazing. I just hooked up with another designer here and we’re going to now do a First Friday event to just get an awareness of other local people.”

Linda Willoughby agrees. “This is the first time I’ve been to Local Designer night, and meeting the other designers is really great because now I’ve networked with some people. We’re going to be getting together for some shows coming up towards the fall.”
