It’s time to get Pink’d! Phoenix Fashion Week 2012 started off with the Fashionably Pink show featuring local celebrities and breast cancer survivors to benefit Susan G. Komen for the Cure.
Nancy Brinker, founder and CEO of Susan G. Komen, came to thank Phoenix Fashion Week for their support and reiterate just how important this cause is. “Around the world a woman dies of breast cancer every 69 seconds. Here in Arizona, nearly 4500 women will be diagnosed with breast cancer this year, and over 700 will die.”
Brinker went on to say that since the creation of this organization, the survival rate for early breast cancer has gone up to 99% in America. It truly shows how important it is to support this organization.
“There is a natural link to fashion and the issue that we deal with everyday: breast cancer,” Brinker stated. We definitely agree! We loved seeing the survivors strut their stuff on the runway, looking gorgeous as ever and having a grand time.
The positive vibe was infectious. A surprise flash mob started the evening off right! The dancers’ fuchsia wigs and matching shirts were definitely show stoppers, but hardly compared to the awesome dance moves! The group helped draw awareness to the Don’t be a Chump, Check for a Lump campaign, started by breast cancer survivor Holly Rose.
Gorgeous linens decorated the chairs on the runway, tables, and even models! We were seriously impressed when Youngsong Martin of Wildflower Linens told us she created the linens for the Twilight wedding. (Fashion & our favorite vampires?! Love.)
The emerging designers of Phoenix Fashion Week were each asked to create a pink themed look for the show. We loved that the family of Living Dreams designer, Michael Poulos, all came repping their exclusive Fashionably Pink design.
Several celebrities walked alongside breast cancer survivors, including Arie from The Bachelorette, Johnjay & Rich from 104.7, and Heather from Million Dollar Listing (Just to name a few!)
Brittany Brown, contestant on cycle 19 of America’s Next Top Model, was one of the local celebrities to grace the runway. “I’m proud of Phoenix because I feel like we’re kind of giving LA and New York a run for their money. I feel really blessed to be back here tonight giving back to charity,” Brown shared with us.
Raina Hein, runner up from cycle 14 of America’s Next Top Model, was the finale of the fashion show. “I’m from Minnesota originally, so I’m kind of out of place with this Phoenix celebrity thing going on, but I feel really welcomed…I’m kind of the new muse for the designer, Furne One. He does stuff all over Europe, on Katy Perry, Gaga, and his dress is on the runway tonight and they were like, ‘We want you to wear our gown!”
The runway show was gorgeous, vivacious, and totally pink! Phoenix Fashion Week did a great job highlighting survivors, celebrities, and designers.
Fashionably Pink was a huge success. We’re sure this is just the beginning to a fantastic week. Stay tuned darlings!
