Whether you’ve been diagnosed with Celiac or are just looking to limit the wheat in your diet, finding gluten free food (that doesn’t taste like cardboard) can be tricky. Here are a few favorite gluten free friendly spots, guaranteed to be full of flavor!
Jewel’s Bakery and Cafe
Honestly, it’s hard for me to imagine life without Jewel’s. It’s a Celiac’s paradise: a dedicated gluten free bakery and cafe that does everything from custom wedding cakes to chicken and waffles. Jewel’s has a fantastic bakery section and an extensive menu of both healthy bites and Southern comfort food. The first couple of times I went, I ordered several dishes– I just couldn’t decide what I wanted more!
Spinato’s Pizzeria
Three words: garlic cheese bread. Need I say more? Hop on over to this local, family-owned chain to feast on gluten-free pizza, sandwiches, and a certain delicious cheesy appetizer.
True Food Kitchen
True Food Kitchen is all about delicious AND healthy eating. Offering a variety of gluten free, vegetarian, and vegan options, it’s a great place for anyone who suffers from allergies or is all about clean eating.
GrabbaGreen
Grabbagreen is my favorite place to go when I’m low on time and looking for a nutritious meal to keep me going for the rest of the day. You can choose from their menu of bowls, wraps, and smoothies, or build your own meal, adding in a wide variety of wholesome ingredients. The best part? Everything is gluten free.
Beckett’s Table
Owned and operated by local chef Justin Beckett, Beckett’s Table is great place to go with friends and family. Their “sophisticated comfort food” is served an open, inviting venue, with all the ingredients locally sourced. Stop by for a fantastic meal and grab a glass from their award-winning wine list.
The Stand: Burgers and Tacos
The Stand puts a fun, new spin on fast food. From their great service to delicious yet simple menu, The Stand is a big step-up from your average burger joint.
Picazzo’s Organic Italian Kitchen
Picazzo’s was the first gluten free haven I discovered in Phoenix. Based in Sedona, this Arizona chain’s entire menu, filled with Italian carbs and healthy dishes alike, can be made gluten free, but its so good, you can’t even tell!
The Counter
The Counter is my newest discovery, and after one burger, I decided to immediately add it to my list of favorites. The gluten free bun is to die for and you can build your own burger to include just about any ingredient you can imagine. Located right off the light-rail at Central and Adams, The Counter is my new favorite downtown spot!
P.F. Chang’s
P.F. Chang’s may be everywhere, but they are a great go-to for gluten free diners. Reliable and consistent, P.F. Chang’s offers a wide variety of Asian dishes that are very hard to find in the gluten free world. What’s more, they have separate plates and bowls for their gluten free items to ensure nothing gets mixed up!
