Last night we got to attend the Venue in Scottsdale and be a part of an amazing fashion show, Brave Wings hosted by the fabulous Oscar de Las Salas and Irma Deihl. This is a charity fashion show that benefits a different charity every year (Check out our story from last year’s event here). This year they were lucky enough to work with the Ryan House which is an organization that helps gives respite and palliative care to children with life-threatening conditions and as needed for end-of-life care. This is such a great charity that can be read more about at RyanHouse.org.
This year’s show had seven amazing designers strut their collections down the runway, and let us tell you this was one jaw dropping show. The only thing that could make it any better was the fact that six out of the seven designers were Arizona-based. We absolutely adore our local designers!
Woman’s Touch Apparel was the first designer on the runway which made sense since Jenesis, the designer, was one of the founders of Brave Wings fashion show alongside her pal Mabel Cortez designer of Mabella Chic which was another featured designer on the runway last night. These girls found a way to let fashion give back to the community, and this fashion show did just that with all the raffle prizes and silent auction pieces.
Jenesis planned her runway show to make woman proud to be a strong and independent. From the music to the clothes, her line was nothing short of perfection, which is exactly what she is! She has built up such an amazing business and is part of the Emerging Phoenix designers at Phoenix Fashion week this year (Remember her from the Emerging Designer Announcement? See the story here). We can not wait to see what the future holds for her.
The next designer to hit the runway was Breazy Brand with a edgy inspiration from her jewelry to her clothes. Her jewelry line contained statement pieces that could be dressed up or down and were great for any and all occasions.Every piece was fun and flirty yet still very polished and trendy. Talk about being a complete show stopper!
The next designer we had the pleasure of meeting last year at Tucson Fashion week (Check out our story here), Laura Tanzer was the next one down the runway with sophisticated clothing, and amazing textures and fabrics on her whole line. All of her garments have a distinctive style and charm about them, that does not go unnoticed. This collection is perfect for any working woman who likes a more reserved yet relaxed look.
Co founder of Brave Wings Mabel Cortez took over the runway next with her fierce line that had us jumping out of our seats for more. She chose vibrant colors and amazing silhouettes for any and all body types. This girl is all about staying true to herself and her collection shows this off. It makes sense that these two strong independent entrepreneurs decided to come together to create a foundation through doing what they love. They are both unstoppable and that is what we love.
The next designer had us drooling for more…no literally! SJ couture by Jeanna Hankerson had many amazing wedding dress designs. Her pieces had us about to start planning a wedding just so we could wear her collection. The looks were simple yet striking with a twist of vintage. Its crazy how the littlest details such as having some of the models walk barefoot add to the contemporary and comfortable design of her garments.
Last but not least was, Alis Fashion Design. Lana’s mission is to make every and all woman’s bodies look beautiful regardless of their shape and size. Therefore every design is custom made, with the the original ideations and working models destroyed. Who does not want a one of a kind piece? I know we do!
The show closer was Michelle Hebert from Los Angeles, who partnered with Clutch Jewelry. Stacy Eden the designer of Clutch Jewelry, hand makes all her pieces which are all works of art. This was a perfect collaboration since Michelle Herbert’s collection was luxurious and aimed for the people into photography and elaborate and noteworthy pieces.
Her garments are sure to get people talking and so are the amazing head pieces that Stacy made. We still cannot get over the fact that these two designers pieces went so well together and did not take away from one another at all. The models in these collection could not walk out from backstage quick enough…we were dying for more and boy did we get it!
We were honored to be a part of this years Brave Wings Fashion show. The clothing lines that walked down that runway described the foundation perfectly. Each collection was angelic in its own way and that is something we really enjoyed watching.
Oh, and we cannot forget to mention how great the intermission show was that Yasmeen, artist on UK’s 2014 to watch list, performed during. Knowing that we got to watch an amazing fashion show and do what we love while giving back to the local community made it all worth it. After an amazing show like that, we cannot wait until next year’s Brave Wings Fashion show!
