High fashion hits the Midwest at Sioux Falls’ Lot 2029

Boutique chic and Midwest charm combine at one of downtown Sioux Falls’ hottest clothing stores: Lot 2029.

Helmed by Fargo transplant Brynn Joki, the boutique offers high fashion at affordable prices, taking cues from the latest trends to inspire local fashionistas.

Hope Goldammer and her mother Madonna Wald started the stylish venture that would become Lot 2029 in 2011, their late July birthdays and a family lot serving as the inspiration behind the name. They opened their first store that year in Bismarck, ND. A second location has since popped up in Fargo, but Goldammer and Wald wanted to pursue fashion even further into the Midwest, pinpointing Sioux Falls as the ideal third addition to their growing brand.

That’s where Joki comes in. From her previous experience at Lot’s Fargo location, Goldammer asked Joki if she would be willing to manage a Sioux Falls branch. The art and fashion design major said yes, and Sioux Falls took one very fashionable step forward.

“There’s too many things to love about working here,” Joki said. “This company is so amazing. The owners really give us as employees freedom to be creative and do our own thing. That pride for the company translates directly to the customers – it’s one of the things I love the most about working here.”

This past November the store moved up the street to its current location on 207 S. Phillips Ave. According to Joki, the move has been overwhelmingly positive.

“We’ve virtually doubled our inventory,” she said. “It’s a higher traffic area, and it’s really been so much better for us.”

By the looks of it, 2016 is set to be a banner year as well. Currently working on expanding to a fourth store, Joki said the Lot 2029 team is hoping to open at a soon to be determined location within the year. Plans are also in place to increase online sales, introduce plus size and formal wear at the Fargo store and market Goldammer and Wald’s newest venture: Mint & Basil, a kitchen boutique in downtown Fargo.

“2016 is going to be pretty large,” Joki said.

But for now spring is right around the corner, and with it comes a plethora of new trends to try and inspiration to be had.

According to Joki, lace-up everything is big this spring, whether that be in shirts, dresses or boots. Comfort is also key. Jumpsuits, rompers and overalls make a statement in one slip-on piece. And though florals reappear every spring, color this year is more natural, Joki said. Think earthy greens and dusty browns to complement the more vibrant colors in any closet.

In one stylish swoop, Lot 2029 proves that fashion doesn’t have to be dependent on geography. And that’s something any Midwest style maven can rejoice about.

“Lot 2029 shows that the Midwest does have hot fashion,” Joki said. “Yes, we’re part of a nation-wide boutique trend, but mostly we just want to provide our customers with their own unique style by offering a wide variety of clothes to anyone from 12 to 85.”

A winning combination if there ever was one.
