Scottsdale Museum of Contemporary Art champions creativity, innovation and the vitality of the visual arts by providing a memorable experience of art, architecture and design. To help enroll the community in their vision, SMoCA has created their annual SMoCA Mix event.

During the past three years, SMoCA Mix has enjoyed unprecedented success, but Creative Co-Chair, Oscar De Las Salas promises us that 2016’s event will be an exquisite exploration of the creative edge and will be the best yet.

The Fashion Designers

The highly anticipated event will showcase contemporary avant-garde fashions from exceptional local and international designers. Los Angeles based fashion house, For the Stars, will present featured designers Rocky Gathercole, Albert Andrada, and Elie Madi. These designers are each known for dressing major celebrities for high profile events, and it’s an honor to have them showcase their work in Scottsdale.

Gathercole, who is known for his provocative designs, will showcase a custom dress Katy Perry wore for her Super Bowl XLIX halftime show performance in Arizona, along with 20 garments designed exclusively for SMoCA Mix inspired by the architecture of the Museum itself. Andrada recently designed the gown of Miss Philippines, Pia Wurtzbach, when she was crowned the 64th Miss Universe, and Elie Madi’s detailed dresses are a favorite of celebrities including Carrie Underwood and actress Bai Ling.

MNM Couture will present Fouad Sarkis whose designs feature intricate details, luxurious materials and rich colors. Sarkis will be displaying a gown recently worn by Scottsdale-based Brazilian model Micheline Etkin to the 2016 Golden Globe Awards.

Arizona’s own couturier Galina Mihaleva will also present her Galina Couture collection of custom gowns and performance art costumes that meld contemporary technology and high fashion, creating a stunning showcase that is not to be missed.

SMoCA will reinvent itself for the evening into an urbane exploration of the provocative edge between contemporary art and conceptual couture. The event will utilize all four galleries, SMoCA Lounge, and the Museum entrance with animated live entertainment and a runway stretching throughout the entire Museum.

“The Fashionably Avant-Garde evening will truly be a one-of-a-kind event that the Valley has never experienced before.” – Christian Serena, Advisory Board Member

Guests are encouraged to dress the theme in black-tie avant-garde and to enjoy the luxurious fashion, catered bites from renowned local chefs Kevin Binkley of Binkley’s and Joshua Hebert of Posh Improvisational Cuisine. Following the signature SMoCA Mix theme of “expect the unexpected,” guests will encounter surprises around every corner, promising an unforgettable evening.
