A Day of Eating in Tucson

When I was in college, a day-trip down to Tucson typically meant eating fast food, leftover pizza, and maybe sneaking in a cheap beer with my friends. However, now that we have all graduated, I think it’s time our palates graduated as well. And, with Tucson’s culinary scene booming, it’s easier than ever to have a delicious day of eating at all sorts of restaurants in the city down south.

Breakfast: Cup Cafe at Hotel Congress

Cup Cafe at Hotel Congress offers a delicious breakfast menu that combines classic favorites with a gourmet twist. I personally love their Congressional Omelet which gives you a chance to customize your dish with 3 of your favorite offerings. My go to? Bell peppers, onions, and sausage. My stomach is growling just thinking about it.

Snack: Pure Love Juice

Our Tucson contributor, Becca, featured Pure Love Juice awhile back, and after reading her review on their acai bowls, I knew this was a spot I would visit again, and again, and again. Grab a quick juice, a bowl, or smoothie and you’ll feel energized and ready to get on with your afternoon.

Coffee Break: Sparkroot

Our digital marketing coordinator, Kyle Krone, recommended Sparkroot as her go-to coffee spot during her time at U of A, so I decided to give it a try. I have to say, I was quite impressed. Their lattes are fantastic with their house-made syrups, and their Rootbrew toddy iced coffee is one I just can’t pass up.

Lunch: Magpies Gourmet Pizza

As sophisticated as me and my palate may be, I will never be able to pass up on good pizza. Like literally, never. Luckily, Magpies offers so many different topping options and combinations that I could probably eat there every day and never get sick of it. (Not that I’m recommending that, I’m just saying, I could.)

Happy Hour: Thunder Canyon Brewery

Thunder Canyon Brewery is where the more sophisticated beer drinker goes in Tucson. With so many different options on tap, you can give your tastebuds a roller coaster ride of flavor. Just be sure to designate a driver!

Dinner: Penca

Start off with a bowl of house-made chips and chipotle salsa, and you’ll already be impressed. Then, grab a few yummy tacos or try one of their amazing entrees for a dinner you won’t forget! I guarantee this Mexico City Cuisine will have you wishing you had room for more. But, don’t worry, with amazing breakfast and lunch menus as well, you can stop by Penca a few times on your weekend trip. I promise not to tell.

Dessert: Hub Ice Creamery

Can anything really beat a yummy scoop of ice cream after a long day of exploring? I, personally, haven’t found anything better yet. So, head over to Hub Ice Creamery and enjoy one of their yummy, unique flavors. Added bonus: the decor of this place makes it super Instagram worthy, so you can inspire serious desert envy in all your friends!
