Some Like it Haute

First Friday. Custom one of a kind dresses. Live design competition. Talk about the perfect night for a Phoenix fashionista! The Some Like it Haute show was an absolute must for all the Valley’s fashion inclined.

The 6th Avenue Gallery in downtown Phoenix was the scene of this chic soiree. The gallery gathered local designers and asked them to create custom pieces that work in the desert heat. The clothes ranged from hand painted vintage t-shirts to flirty cocktail dresses. Models came out from around the Valley to show off how “haute” one can look even when its hot.

Astrid Olafsen of Runz with Scissorz and Lisa Jacobs of Sticker Club Girl came to the First Friday event to participate in a live design challenge. The gallery presented them with fabrics and gave them only 3 hours to create a garment, while the entire audience watched! This Project Runway inspired competition not only entertained the audience, but showed just how much work goes into the creation of a single piece of clothing.

We loved seeing the fashions Phoenix designers created up close and personal. Although we would never miss a good runway show, we enjoyed the hands-on experience the art gallery provided. It’s not everyday you can closely observe the intricate details of a one of a kind Galina dress.

For your chance to see these Phoenix designs, visit the 6th Avenue Gallery Friday, June 13th, 4-7p.m. or Friday, June 20th, 7-9 p.m. And, of course, Like them on Facebook (http://www.facebook.com/6thavegallery) and Follow them on Twitter (@6thAveArt)
