An art show all about heels? Count us in!
6th Avenue Gallery hosted their second annual Inspired Soles exhibit during First Friday in downtown Phoenix. Artists and influencers from all around Arizona were handed a plain black stiletto, with their only instructions to be as creative as possible. And we have to say, everyone did an incredible job. These shoes were returned as true masterpieces. Honestly, we’ve never seen fashion this fun before.
We were so thrilled when 6th Avenue Gallery asked us to be a part of the show. Although we normally use our creative skills online through writing and photography, we took the opportunity to get our hands dirty (literally, paint and hot glue were everywhere!) and create some three-dimensional art.
“Urban Temptress” was the result of our effort. This shoe is for the woman allured into city life, experiencing the movement and textures of a new life outside her rural past. We wanted to keep our shoe fashion forward which is why we chose to use metallic bronze paint and hardware chains.
As much as we loved creating our own shoe, we loved seeing the other works of art even more! It was amazing to see how creative people can be with a simple black heel. Everyone had such a unique perspective and vision.
Now, for your viewing pleasure…. shoes on shoes on shoes!
The crowd was able to bid on each stiletto through the silent auction process, with a select few auctioned off live (which was so much fun to be a part of). A portion of the proceeds from this auction went to benefit Artlink Phoenix, a nonprofit organization dedicated to linking artists, businesses and the public to better understand, appreciate and promote a thriving arts community in central Phoenix.
If you are interested in having any of these amazing shoes for your own personal collection (art collection that is, we don’t recommend actually trying to wear some of these styles), visit Facebook.com/6thavegallery for some competitive Facebook bidding. Good luck fashionistas and art junkies!
(P.S. in case you were wondering which shoe was our absolute FAVORITE of the shoe, it’s this heel less shoe, “Walking the Streets” by Canary, a Gould Evans Studio. Amazing job guys!)
