By age four I had discovered my infinite love for all things pretty. By age eight I had learned the ins and outs of fashion, and in all seriousness, my life would never be the same. At age ten I decided I wanted to become a supermodel, and by age 12 I realized a large part of me wanted Anna Wintour’s job.
Few things have changed since.
I have been a model in the Arizona fashion scene for the past two years. I’ve been a part of Phoenix Fashion Week’s Top 40, been the face of multiple campaigns, and most recently I was featured in an ad for Schumacher Mercedes Benz.
Following the modeling track has helped me to build relationships with some of the foremost designers, stylists, hair and makeup artists, and those most prominent in the fashion industry within the southwest. These relationships have helped me to see beyond the stereotypical world of modeling and fashion, and have introduced me to the business and lifestyle of the fashion industry as a whole.
The fashion industry is about so much more than “clothes” and the models who wear them. It’s an art form – and a career. The passion I’ve seen, and felt myself, for the industry is overwhelming. There are so many outlets within the industry to explore, and that is why I want to write about it.
To those who are strangers to this world, there isn’t much else to see beyond “shirts,” skinny people and price tags. But to those of us who believe Stanley Tucci when he proclaims that fashion is “greater than art because [we] live [our] life in it,” this is a world full of beauty, opportunity and potential; a world full of people and things waiting to be explored.
I’m excited to share what I find with all of you.
