The Best of PHXFW Shop Garment District

Phoenix Fashion Week 2015 has started off on a high note! The designers this year have truly stepped up the level of talent shown on the runway, and I for one, couldn’t be more excited about that. We got our first look at this year’s designers, which includes 4 alumni designers, at the Emerging Designer Announcement in June. But now, PHXFW Shop Garment District has given us a better idea of what we can expect to see on the runway in October. There were, of course, highs and lows to the event, but let’s start out on a positive note by focusing on the best parts of Friday night’s event.

Highlights

Some of my favorite moments from the show are below:

The whole Arae collection paired with Beltshazzar jewelry was phenomenal. Vanessa Gonzales truly outdid herself with the styling. Every look was well executed, trendy, and above all, luxurious. I could see both Arae and Beltshazzar selling among the top brands at luxury stores like Barneys New York. Bravo to all involved in this show.

I have loved Medium Apparel since I first saw them on the runway in 2013 (see photos here), but the floral look sported by emerging model, Anthony LaFlam, was a whole new level for the brand. What’s more, stylist Tim Boado made it fit right in next to some of the tougher looks from Medium. Job well done gentleman.

Laura Tanzer had by far the most cohesive show, which she tied together perfectly with the models’ jacket pass off. Not only did this show the reversible jackets with two looks, it also added some entertainment value to the crowd. I know this took coordination when designing the collection, but I also must give a round of applause to the emerging models who executed the choreography perfectly.

Lexi Hart in Haute Body. That’s all I can even say. I knew our contributor was a rockstar, but it wasn’t until I saw her walk in this show, that I truly understood what a power house she was. I mean COME ON! #ModeloftheYear

(Side note, Lexi told me this is one of her favorite outfits she has ever worn on the runway. She said it fit her like a glove and she would even be willing to become a brand ambassador for Haute Body – now if that’s not a raving review, I don’t know what is!)

Every look from Michelle Hébert is flawless, but I really loved seeing how she tied in her newest venture, lingerie, in with her editorial designs. The look worn by emerging model, Taylor Ashton, was absolutely stunning and could easily work outside of a photo shoot or runway show. Stylist Jackie Marin did a wonderful job fusing fantasy and ready to wear, and created a showstopping mini collection that I can’t wait to see more of in October.
