At this point, we’ve all heard about the Made in America movement. People around the country are opting for products that are crafted with care in their home country. Many of us even understand what these Made in America products can do for our economy by boosting the number of jobs and keeping business’ dollars in their country of origin.
But what we might not understand is all the challenges that go along with Made in America products, especially in the fashion industry. James Belzer’s new documentary, Make it in America, seeks to uncover those challenges and shed light on the reinvigoration of fashion manufacturing in the United States.
The Fashioned in America exhibit at Phoenix art Museum, which coincides with the release of Belzer’s documentary, is “an exhibition about how economics, ecology and labor ethics are driving a revival of fashion designs made in the United States” (PHXart.org).
The exhibit features over 40 pieces ranging from gowns to capes to leggings and beanies. Below is a sampling of looks you can expect to see at Phoenix Art Museum from now through March 15th. The exhibit will also feature an edited version of the Make it in America documentary, a visual history of the fashion industry and interviews with key individuals in the modern world of fashion.
We urge you to stop by the museum and learn more about just how fabulous American manufacturing can be.
